Dental Workers

The HWU represents Dental Assistants and Nurses, Dental Administrators, Dental Maintenance, Dental Hygienists and Oral Health Therapists. Whether you work for the Dental Hospital of Victoria, hospitals, Community Health Centres or Private Dentists, the HWU is your union.

Dental Worker

The HWU understands how hard you work and the dedication and effort that you put into your work. We have been working with training providers, employers and professional bodies to ensure that workers within the dental profession have better access to professional development opportunities, receive pay rises and better working conditions.

As part of the VICTORIAN PUBLIC HEALTH SECTOR (HEALTH AND ALLIED SERVICES, MANAGERS AND ADMINISTRATIVE WORKERS) SINGLE INTEREST ENTERPRISE AGREEMENT 2016-2020 we have reviewed a number of Dental worker classifications and made significant big improvements.

In a nutshell:

  • Every public health worker will receive an immediate sign-on bonus payment of $1561;
  • All public sector health workers will get a 14% general pay increase over 4 years (a 5% increase in wages and allowances this year and three 3 per cent pay rises between 2017 and 2019);
  • Dental nurses will be transferred to the Dental Assistant Classification Structure resulting in big pay rises; and
  • We have created a new Dental Maintenance classification structure.

Community Health Centre Dental Workers

The Health Workers Union is currently engaged in Enterprise Bargaining in relation to the Victorian Stand-Alone Community Health Centre Enterprise Agreement. Dental workers can expect significant changes to their classification structures and pay rises. We will be visiting Community Health Centres in the coming months and encourage all dental workers to attend our meetings, and join our union so that you can have a say about what you want changed.
