Security Officer Grade 1 Wage Skill Group 4

Means an employee performing dedicated CCTV and alarm monitoring, or car park attending. Cert II in security monitoring or the equivalent (minimum mandatory training requirement). A Security Officer Grade 1 will not be required to physically attend to Code’s.

Security Officer Grade 2 Wage Skill Group 6

Means a licensed security guard performing a dedicated security function involving the security of patients, staff or the facilities. A car park attendant who is required to issue infringement notices. A Security Officer Grade 2 will require a Cert III in security operations or the equivalent.

Security Officer Grade 3 Wage Skill Group 8

An employee as per Security Officer Grade 2 who holds a Cert IV in security operations or the equivalent.

Security Officer Grade 4 Wage Skill Group 10

An employee as per Security Officer Grade 2 or 3.

A Security Officer Grade 4 may be required to Liaise with police as part of criminal investigations. Perform risk assessments.  ID Card allocation and or monitoring. Fire panel responsibilities. Mortuary duties including releasing the deceased. Security Safe responsibilities.

Security Officer Grade 5 Wage Skill Group 11

An employee as per Security Officer Grade 2 or 3.

A Security Officer Grade 5 may be required to Liaise with police as part of criminal investigations. Risk assessments.  ID Card allocation and or monitoring. Fire panel responsibilities. Mortuary duties. Security Safe responsibilities. A Grade 5 Security Officer undertakes additional responsibilities, including training of staff, and the supervision staff.

A Grade 5 will be appointed to the Grade 6 position in their absence.

Security Officer Grade 6 (To be employed under the Officer Administrative Award)

An employee as per Security Officer Grade 3. The Grade 6 position is in charge of the security department.

Upon implementation of this structure each hospital will have at least 1 Security Officer classified at Grade 6.

Once implemented in Victoria, a Security Officer Grade 6 will be offered an opportunity to complete the Diploma in Health Support Services (Supervision) or equivalent qualification awarded by a registered training organisation through financial assistance, flexible rostering and/or study leave.

  • Security is to be treated as a stand alone department. To be clear the only employee capable of reviewing security practices is the security officer Grade 5 in consultation with the security team. The Grade 5 Security Officer shall have a position on hospital executive.

Security staff who do not currently have formal qualifications are to be provided with opportunity to obtain their qualifications.
