Good Deal For Spotless Members

The Health Workers Union has been in negotiations with Spotless for some time.
From the outset, the union has been rock solid in our belief that our Spotless members do the same work as our public sector hospital members – in the same public hospitals – and therefore should get the same pay. The proposed agreement delivers this outcome for our HWU Spotless members.
Spotless had initially refused to offer a fair pay deal. However, they changed their tune once HWU members had voted to take industrial action. The mere threat of striking was enough to bring them to the table.

Here is a summary of some points in the proposed new Spotless workplace agreement:

Pay Deal Lifts Wages to Public Sector Parity

  • 2% back pay to 1 January 2017
  • 3% from 1 October 2017
  • 3% from 1 October 2018
  • Parity with the public sector 1 October 2019

The Agreement has a nominal expiry date of 30 September 2020.

A casual conversion process has been agreed to convert casual employment to permanent after 52 weeks of regular and systematic employment.

Where an Orderly is required to perform heart shaves or mortuary duties, they will be paid as a PSA for the entire shift length.
A clause has been inserted that confirms that e-learning will be performed during paid work time.
